You can apply for recognition as a test engineer for structural stability by submitting the necessary evidence to the Structural Testing Office.

A test engineer for stability is a person who is recognized as such by the supreme building supervisory authority. Other persons may not use this designation.

Inspection engineers carry out building inspection tasks in their respective specialist area in accordance with the Brandenburg Building Code or regulations based on the Brandenburg Building Code at the instigation of the client.

Test engineers are subject to legal and technical supervision in the following specialist areas

a. Solid construction,

b. Metal construction and

c. timber construction.

In order to be recognized as a test engineer for stability, the applicant must undergo a comprehensive examination of their knowledge and skills.

The application for recognition, stating the department and subject area, must be accompanied by

• a curriculum vitae with complete details of your professional career up to the date of application,
• a copy of each of the diploma and employment certificates,
• proof of the application for a certificate of good conduct for submission to an authority or an equivalent document from a member state of the European Union, which should not be older than three months,
• details of any other branches,
• details of any participation in a company whose purpose is the planning or execution of construction projects and
• proof of fulfillment of the special requirements for recognition in the respective specialist areas and, if provided, specialist fields.

The recognition authority may request further documents if necessary.

Only persons are recognized as test engineers for stability in the fields of solid construction, metal construction and timber construction who

• have completed a degree in civil engineering at a German university or an equivalent degree at a foreign university,
• have subsequently been entrusted with the preparation of stability certificates, technical site management or comparable activities for at least ten years, of which they must have prepared stability certificates for at least five years and have been entrusted with technical site management for at least one year; however, the time spent in technical site management may only be credited up to a maximum of three years,
• have the necessary knowledge of the relevant building regulations,
• have demonstrated above-average skills through their work as engineers and
• have the specialist knowledge required for a test engineer.

Proof that the requirements for recognition have been met must be provided in the form of a certificate from the examination board.

Examination of the formal requirements for recognition as a test engineer: EUR 600 for one discipline / EUR 480 for each additional discipline. Fees are based on tariff item 7.1 of the Brandenburg Building Fee Regulations
