You can report animal welfare officers at your facility or company to the State Office for Occupational Safety, Consumer Protection and Health (LAVG).

You must appoint one or more animal welfare officers if you work with vertebrates or cephalopods in your facility or company that are intended

• to be used in animal experiments, or
• whose organs or tissues are intended to be used for scientific purposes.

The order must be made before the start of the activities. You must notify the LAVG of the order.

Documents on the the position of the animal welfare officer and his or her powers (e.g. by means of statutes, internal instructions or similar; in German)

• Only persons with a university degree in veterinary medicine may be appointed as animal welfare officers.
• Animal welfare officers must have the knowledge and skills required to carry out their duties and the necessary reliability.

The LAVG may approve exceptions to the qualification as a veterinarian if the required knowledge and skills have been demonstrated.

• Prepare an informal letter and attach the necessary evidence.
• Submit the notification together with the supporting documents to the LAVG.
