Have you completed the social pedagogy course at a vocational school for social services in the state of Brandenburg? In order to work as a recognized specialist in child and youth welfare, you need state recognition as an educator.

The profession of educator is regulated in Germany by the individual federal states. This means that you can only work in this profession in the state of Brandenburg without restrictions and use the professional title if you have been granted state recognition as an educator. State recognition is granted upon application and if the required conditions are met.

In addition to the professional requirements, which are proven by the successful completion of the social pedagogy course at a vocational school for social services in the state of Brandenburg, further requirements must be met. The application must also include

• Personal aptitude and
• health suitability

must also be proven.

- an informal application for state recognition as an educator,

- a certified copy of the final certificate from the vocational school,

- an extended certificate of good conduct in accordance with § 30a of the Federal Central Criminal Register Act (Bundeszentralregistergesetz), which is no more than three months old and proves that you are fit to practise the profession,

- a medical certificate no more than three months old confirming fitness to practise the profession

• You have successfully completed a three-year course of study in the field of social pedagogy, including integrated practical training, at a vocational school for social work or a corresponding state-recognized alternative school in the state of Brandenburg.
• You have not been guilty of any behavior that would make you unreliable to practice the profession. You can prove this with an appropriate certificate of good conduct.
• You are medically fit to practise the profession. You can prove this with a medical certificate.
• You have the necessary knowledge of the German language to practise the profession.

State recognition is also granted to those who have successfully completed the training or course of study while working or have obtained the qualification in the form of a non-student examination.

You submit an application together with all the necessary documents and send it to the relevant technical college in the state of Brandenburg where you completed your training. If all the necessary documents have been submitted in full and you meet the requirements described, you can be granted state recognition as an educator.

When you are granted state recognition, you will be issued or sent a certificate confirming this. This entitles you to use the professional title "State-recognized educator".

The processing time depends on the completeness of the required documents.

The submitted documents of the medical certificate and the extended certificate of good conduct must not be older than 3 months.
