Have you completed a Bachelor's degree in Childhood Education at a university in the state of Brandenburg? In order to work as a recognized specialist in child and youth welfare, you need state recognition as a childhood educator.

The profession of childhood educator is regulated in Germany by the individual federal states. This means that you can only work in this profession in the state of Brandenburg without restrictions and use the professional title if you have been granted state recognition as a childhood educator. State recognition is granted upon application and if the required conditions are met.

In addition to the professional requirements, which are proven by the successful completion of the regular three-year Bachelor's degree course in Childhood Education at a university in the state of Brandenburg, further requirements must be met. The application must also include

• Personal aptitude and
• health suitability

must also be proven.

- an informal application for state recognition as a childhood educator

- an officially certified copy of an identity card or passport

- a certified copy of the degree certificate and the Bachelor's degree certificate from the university of applied sciences

- an extended certificate of good conduct for submission to an authority, document type OE in accordance with § 30 a para. 1, 2 sentence 2, § 30 para. 5 sentence 1 of the Federal Central Register Act, which is not older than three months, proving the reliability to exercise the profession

- a medical certificate proving the health suitability for exercising the profession, which is not older than three months

• You have successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Childhood Education, including integrated practical training, at a state or state-recognized university of applied sciences in the state of Brandenburg after a standard period of study of at least six semesters.
• You have not been guilty of any behavior that would make you unreliable to practice the profession. You can prove this with an appropriate certificate of good conduct.
• You are medically fit to practise the profession. You can prove this with a medical certificate and have the necessary knowledge of the German language to practise the profession.

You submit an application together with all the necessary documents and send it to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the State of Brandenburg. If all the necessary documents have been submitted in full and you meet the requirements described, state recognition as a childhood educator can be granted.

An administrative fee of EUR 65.00 will be charged for the granting of state recognition; you will be notified of this in writing in a fee notice. You will also be sent a certificate of state recognition. This entitles you to use the professional title "State-recognized childhood educator".

2 to 4 weeks

The processing time depends on the completeness of the documents.

The submitted documents of the medical certificate and the extended certificate of good conduct must not be older than 3 months.
