- If your child is unable to participate in society on an equal footing due to a mental or impending mental disability, integration assistance services in accordance with Section 35a SGB VIII may be considered and support your child in participating in society.
Integration assistance is divided into 4 groups:
- Services for medical rehabilitation
- Services for participation in working life
- Services for participation in education and
- Services for social participation
- Integration assistance can be provided in the following forms
- in outpatient form
- in day care facilities for children or in other day-care facilities
- in day and night facilities and other forms of accommodation
- by suitable caregivers
- A mental disability can be, for example, an anxiety disorder, depression, psychosis, autism, ADHD or an eating disorder.
- In addition to mental disabilities, there are also physical and mental disabilities and sensory impairments for which integration assistance benefits are available in accordance with SGB IX. The social welfare offices are generally responsible for providing advice and assistance.

- individual local public youth welfare organizations (youth welfare offices) may have forms that must be submitted before or after the application is submitted
- Various proofs, documents, etc. must be submitted in relation to the specific individual case; the local public youth welfare organization (youth welfare office) will provide information on this before or after the application is submitted
- In order to process the application with regard to the deviation of mental health in accordance with paragraph 1 sentence 1 number 1, the public youth welfare organization (youth welfare office) must obtain the opinion of
1. a doctor of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy,
2. a child and adolescent psychotherapist, a psychotherapist with further training in the treatment of children and adolescents, or
3. a doctor or a psychological psychotherapist who has special experience in the field of mental disorders in children and adolescents,
must be obtained. The opinion must be based on the International Classification of Diseases in the German version published by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices. It must also state whether the deviation has disease value or is based on a disease.
- Children or adolescents are entitled to integration assistance if
1. their mental health is very likely to deviate from the typical state for their age for more than six months, and
2. their participation in life in society is therefore impaired or such an impairment is to be expected.
- Young people are eligible. They can submit an application from the age of 15.
- Before the age of 15, their legal representatives submit an application on their behalf.
Your child has a mental disability or is at risk of one. The condition is likely to last longer than 6 months and therefore your child's participation in society is impaired or is expected to be impaired.
Integration assistance in outpatient form is free of charge. Outpatient assistance includes, for example, school escorts.
In the case of partial or full inpatient integration assistance in day facilities, with caregivers or in day and night facilities, you may have to make a reasonable contribution. Please ask the responsible youth welfare office.
- Contact the local youth welfare office (Jugendamt).
- In a personal meeting, you and your child will be advised on the application process, the further procedure and possible assistance.
- You or your child apply for integration assistance for children and young people with mental disabilities or impending mental disabilities in accordance with Section 35a SGB VIII.
- Integration assistance services can also be provided in addition to or in combination with educational assistance or assistance from other rehabilitation providers.
- Integration assistance in accordance with Section 35a SGB VIII is only considered if
- a doctor of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, a child and adolescent psychotherapist, a psychotherapist with further training in the treatment of children and adolescents or
a doctor or a psychological psychotherapist with special experience in the field of mental disorders in children and adolescents, determines that the mental health of the child or adolescent is very likely to deviate from the typical state for their age for more than six months and therefore the child's/adolescent's participation in society is impaired or such impairment is to be expected.
As part of the assistance planning, it is discussed how the assistance
- and what goals are to be achieved. If other persons, services or institutions are involved in the organization of the assistance, they will also be involved in updating the assistance planning.
The deadlines set out in Section 14 of the German Social Code (SGB) - Ninth Book (IX) - Rehabilitation and Participation of Persons with Disabilities (Leistender Rehabilitationsträger) must be observed.
