The Realschule comprises grades 5 to 10 and provides general and pre-vocational education, ends with a final examination and awards the Realschule certificate. Young people must be enrolled at the Realschule to which they are to be admitted.
At the Realschule, there are three educational tracks, the elective subject groups I, II and III. They set different priorities in the curriculum from year 7 onwards.
- Compulsory elective subject group I
The mathematical, scientific and technical branch is aimed at pupils with an interest in technology. Physics is taught here as a profile subject. Mathematics lessons are taught in greater depth. Through practical experiments, the young people discover physical relationships and laws. The focus of this subject provides a good basis for pursuing technical or scientific careers.
- Compulsory elective subject group II
In the economics branch, the subject of business administration/accounting teaches students the skills they need to act independently in business. To this end, the perspectives of a company are also taken into account. This creates a basis for a later career in business and administration.
- Compulsory elective subject group III
In this stream, the focus is on learning French as a second foreign language. In addition to learning the French language, intercultural skills are also taught in French lessons. The internationally recognized DELF diploma of the Institut français at level B1 can be taken as part of the final examination. Proof of a second foreign language is a prerequisite for the general higher education entrance qualification.
Secondary schools can add a further subject to the third branch. Here, the profile subject can be, for example, nutrition and health, handicrafts, art, music or social work . The skills acquired in the chosen profile subject create a solid foundation for vocational training in the relevant sector.
