In order for your professional advancement training to be funded by the Advancement BAföG, you must provide evidence of your previous qualifications.

In order to have your professional advancement training funded by the Advancement BAföG, you must, among other things, provide evidence of your prior qualifications (for example, completed first vocational training, professional experience or bachelor's degree).

The document required to prove your pre-qualification is “Form Z”. Form Z is an attachment to your application for advanced BAföG. You must use this Form Z to confirm that you already meet the technical admission requirements for advanced training or can meet them by the time of the exam.

The body responsible for the confirmation is the one that also administers the final examination for the degree you are seeking. With the confirmation of your pre-qualification, you can then apply for the advancement BAföG. Different bodies are responsible for this depending on the federal state.

Which documents you specifically have to submit depends on the requirements of the respective examination regulations for the advanced training qualification you are seeking.

Typically, you qualify either through completed initial vocational training and/or professional experience. However, you may also be able to demonstrate the necessary prior qualification with a bachelor's degree or an unfinished degree. The exact requirements are set out in the examination regulations for the respective advanced training qualification.

• You apply for confirmation of your pre-qualification from the responsible authority.
• You submit Form Z of your application for advancement BAföG together with proof of your previous qualifications.
• The responsible authority will check your pre-qualification.
• The responsible authority will send the completed Form Z back to you by post.
