As a recipient of basic social security benefits, you can receive reimbursement for school supplies under certain conditions. This is possible if you apply for benefits under the Education and Participation Package.
Basic social security is a state social benefit in Germany that provides financial support to people who cannot support themselves from their own income or assets. It serves to ensure a minimum standard of living and prevent poverty.
If children, teenagers or young adults receiving basic social security benefits live in your household, you can apply for reimbursement of school supplies.
Reimbursement is provided for school supplies such as school bags, pens, calculators or backpacks and sports equipment, as well as writing, calculating and drawing materials such as fountain pens, crayons, compasses, protractors or erasers.
Expenses for consumables that must be purchased regularly, such as notebooks, pencils and ink, cannot be reimbursed separately.

- School certificate (issued by the school)
- Please keep your receipts for the purchase of school supplies. You will be asked to present them if necessary.
- You or your child are a student and not yet 25 years old.
- You or your parents receive basic social security benefits.
- You or your child attend a general education school (including preschool) or a vocational school.
- You will not receive any training allowance.
- For children ages 7 to 15, you don't need to apply for reimbursement for school supplies. You'll receive the money automatically.
- If your child is under 7 years old or over 15 years old, you can apply for reimbursement of costs with the necessary documents from the responsible authority.
- The responsible authority will review your application and documents. If necessary, they will request additional documents or information from you.
- The responsible authority will decide on your application.
- You will receive a notification.
Apply for reimbursement well in advance of the start of the school year or semester so that benefits can be paid out on time.

As a recipient of benefits under Book XII of the Social Code (social assistance, basic social security), you can receive this benefit as part of the education package. Schoolchildren receive a total subsidy of €195 per year for learning materials, €130 at the beginning of the school year (usually on August 1) and €65 at the beginning of the second school semester (usually on February 1).
