You can extend your class B driving license to include the key number 96 or 196.

If you already have a class B (car) driving license, you can extend it and obtain additional driving privileges.
With the B96 key number, you are allowed to drive a car with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg. The total weight of the car and trailer must not exceed 4,250 kg.
The B196 license allows you to ride motorcycles (including sidecars) with a maximum displacement of 125 cc. The engine power must not exceed 11 kW. The power-to-weight ratio must not exceed 0.1 kW/kg. A motorcycle license is not required.
To do this, you must complete driver training at a driving school. Once the key numbers have been entered, you will receive a new driver's license containing all your driving privileges.

• valid driving license in EU card format
• biometric passport photo (35x45 mm)
• Certificate of participation from the driving school confirming that the driver training course has been completed in accordance with Annex 7a (key number 96) or 7b (key number 196) of the Driving Licence Regulations (FeV)
• Appointment confirmation
• If applicable, a copy of your index card (only required if you still have a paper driving licence and your last driving licence was not issued in Hamburg)

For key number 96:

• Her main residence is in Hamburg.
• You have a class B driving license.
• You are at least 18 years old.
• You have completed driver training at a driving school in accordance with Appendix 7a of the Driving Licence Regulations (FeV).

For key number 196:

• Her main residence is in Hamburg.
• You have held a class B driving license for at least 5 years.
• You are at least 25 years old.
• You have completed driver training at a driving school in accordance with Appendix 7b of the Driving Licence Regulations (FeV).

Registration of the key number: 28.60 EUR
Production of the new driver's license: 32.50 EUR
For shipping by post, an additional charge of EUR 2.60 applies.

The basis for this is the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt).

• You have successfully completed a driving training course to enter the key number 96 or 196 at a driving school.
• You book an appointment online.
• You bring all the necessary documents with you.
• Your request will be processed on site.
• Once produced, your new driving license will be sent to you by registered mail.

About 4 weeks.

The period between the completion of the driving training and the entry of the key number 196 must not exceed 1 year.

The distinction between the key number 96 and the BE driving license is that a BE driving license also allows you to tow larger trailers with a maximum permissible weight of 3,500 kg. A practical test is also required for the BE driving license.

Contradiction

• Extension of the Class B driving license to include the key numbers 96 or 196 for additional driving authorizations.
• Key number B96: Allows driving a car with a trailer over 750 kg, the total weight of car and trailer must not exceed 4,250 kg.
• Key number B196: Permits the driving of motorcycles (with sidecar) up to a maximum of 125 cm³ displacement and 11 kW power, the power-to-weight ratio must not exceed 0.1 kW/kg.
• Driver training must be completed at a driving school.
• Once the key numbers have been entered, a new driving license will be issued containing all driving authorizations.
