If your name has changed, your driver's license should also be updated. If your requirements need to change, for example, because you no longer need visual aids, you will need to apply for a new driver's license. A new EU card driver's license is always issued for changes to your driver's license.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

  • the current driving license
  • a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with a current registration confirmation with the new name,
  • 1 biometric passport photo 35 x 45 mm,
  • Index card copy - only required if no EU card driving license has yet been issued and the last driving license was not issued in Hamburg (see also link)
  • International driving license, if available.
  • Appointment confirmation

Additionally for name changes:

  • the marriage certificate or the name change certificate

Additionally, if the driving license requirements change:

  • Documents proving that a condition is no longer necessary (for example, a medical report).
    • To cancel a visual aid, an ophthalmological report must be submitted in accordance with Annex 6.2 FeV.

Voraussetzungen

  • You submit your application in person.
  • You have your main residence in Hamburg.
  • Your name change has already been completed in your identification documents (identity card or passport).

Kosten

The fee is EUR 44.70 and is based on the fee schedule for measures in road traffic (GebOSt). Additional fees apply for express orders.

Verfahrensablauf

  • You book an appointment online.
  • You bring all the necessary documents with you.
  • Your request will be processed on site.
  • Once produced, your new driving license will be sent to you by registered mail.

Bearbeitungsdauer

The production time at the Federal Printing Office is approximately 3-4 weeks. The driver's license will be sent to you directly from the Federal Printing Office. Express processing at the Federal Printing Office takes 3 business days.

Frist

The validity of driving licenses issued after January 19, 2013, is limited to 15 years; after that, you must apply for a new driving license. Your driving license remains valid; no new test is required. Driving licenses issued before January 19, 2013, must be exchanged by January 19, 2033, at the latest.

  2. Use location selection to display appointments at a specific location
    Use the date picker to find the next available date regardless of location
  3. Select a free appointment (date and time) in the displayed calendar
  4. Enter your name and email address for booking.
  5. You will receive an email. Please confirm the appointment.

You will then receive an appointment confirmation. Please bring this with you to your appointment.
