If your vehicle is exempt from vehicle tax, you can apply for a green license plate.

If your vehicle is exempt from vehicle tax, it will receive a green license plate. This includes vehicles from various industries, such as agriculture and forestry, fairground rides, or ambulances. A list of other vehicles can be found in Section 3 et seq. of the Motor Vehicle Tax Act (KraftStG).
Trailers receive a green license plate if they are taxed via the towing vehicle.

Exempt vehicles that do not receive a green license plate despite being tax-exempt include vehicles owned by severely disabled persons, low-emission vehicles, and light and small motorcycles.
