As a professional driver, you need a driver qualification certificate (FQN) in addition to your driving license.

As a professional driver, you need a driver qualification certificate (FQN) in addition to your driver's license. To do this, you must obtain the basic qualification once and then renew it every five years with further training.

Proof of professional driver qualification was previously entered into the EU card driving license. This procedure has been changed. Since May 23, 2021, proof has been provided by issuing a driver qualification certificate (FQN). This driver qualification certificate is issued as an additional card to the EU card driving license and is marked with the key number 95 after the respective class.

• a valid identity card or an electronic residence permit (eAT) or passport with current confirmation of registration
• the EU card driving license
• a biometric passport photo 35 x 45 millimeters
• proof of basic qualification and proof of advanced training modules
• the appointment confirmation

• You have your main residence in Hamburg
• You are a professional driver or are in training to become one.
• You hold a driving licence of categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D or DE.
• You have a basic qualification or further training.
• You submit your application for the issue, extension or renewal of the driver qualification certificate as part of the application for the initial issue, extension, renewal or reissue of a Class C or Class D driving licence.

32.50 EUR.
The driver qualification certificate is usually sent directly by the Federal Printing Office. An additional fee of EUR 3.50 will be charged for this.
Additional costs depend on the type of application and can only be determined upon application. The fee amount is based on the Fee Schedule for Measures in Road Traffic (GebOSt).

• You book an appointment online.
• You attend the appointment and bring all the necessary documents with you.
• Your request will be processed on site.
• Your driver qualification certificate will be created by the Federal Printing Office and sent to you by post.

Production time is 3-4 weeks. Delivery is usually made directly by the Federal Printing Office.

After acquiring the basic qualification, you must then renew it every five years through further training.

The basic qualification must be demonstrated by all drivers who

• obtained their D-class driving license after 9 September 2008.
• obtained their C-class driving license after 9 September 2009.
• Are a citizen of a member state of the EU or the European Economic Community (EEC) or work for a company based in the EU or the EEC and carry out commercial journeys (including work-related transport or auxiliary transport activities) on public roads with the following vehicles:
• Vehicles with a permissible total weight of over 3.5 tonnes in freight or company transport (C classes).
• Vehicles with more than eight passenger seats in passenger transport (D classes).

• Visit the website of the State Transport Authority to book an appointment (see link below).
• Select the category: Driving license
• Then select: Application for driver qualification certificate
• Follow the steps to reserve an appointment.
• You will receive an email. Confirm your reserved appointment using the link in the email.
• You will receive an appointment confirmation. Please bring it with you to your appointment.

Contradiction

• Professional drivers require a basic qualification in accordance with the Professional Driver Qualification Act (BKrFQG)
• Proof was previously key number 95, from 2021 this will be replaced by driver qualification certificate (FQN)
• the FQN must be carried in addition to the driving licence
• the FQN must be applied for in writing
• After the card has been produced, it will be automatically sent by the Federal Printing Office
