If you need to drive your truck on Sundays or public holidays even though there is a driving ban, you can apply for an exemption.
Trucks over 7.5 tons and trucks with trailers are prohibited from driving on Sundays and public holidays between midnight and 10 p.m. This applies to the entire road network in Germany.
You can apply for an exemption for urgent and absolutely necessary transports.
This applies, for example, to the delivery of fresh food and medicines, time-bound transports or the return journey of an empty truck after a completed delivery.
The required documents depend on the individual case. To find out which documents you need to submit, please contact the Exception Approval Management Department of the State Office for Transport (LBV) in advance. This is available by phone or email.
- Your truck weighs over 7.5 tons or tows a trailer.
- You would like to drive your truck on a Sunday or public holiday between midnight and 10 p.m.
- You can prove and justify that this trip is absolutely necessary.
The fee for a one-day exemption is EUR 50.00.
For a permanent exemption for 12 months, the fee is EUR 300.00.

You must submit an application for an exemption from the Sunday driving ban for the following Sunday via the online application process by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday at the latest.
