Volltext

As a woman with health insurance, you are entitled to midwifery care in addition to medical care during your pregnancy and during and after childbirth. Midwifery care includes services during pregnancy and childbirth provided by a state-certified and recognized midwife or obstetric nurse. The provision of services is regulated by the midwifery care contract.

Midwifery care includes:

  • maternity care and pregnancy care services,
  • obstetrics,
  • Services during the postpartum period up to 12 weeks after birth and
  • other services, such as advice for mothers with breastfeeding difficulties or postnatal exercises in group instruction.

The midwifery assistance is provided to you as a benefit in kind. This means that your midwife bills your health insurance company directly. Only services that are regulated in the midwifery remuneration list can be billed.

Your health insurance provider is the point of contact for all your questions about midwifery assistance. Before you use midwifery assistance, you should clarify whether the costs will be covered by your health insurance provider.
