The disposal of waste from private households and thus also of problematic materials is the responsibility of the responsible public waste disposal authority.
In Hamburg, the Hamburg city cleaning department is responsible for this as the public waste disposal agency.

The disposal of waste from private households, including problematic substances/pollutants, as well as disposal waste from other areas of origin, is the responsibility of the public waste disposal authorities (districts and urban districts). In the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Hamburg city cleaning department is responsible for this.
Problematic materials are waste that, due to their material properties, must not be disposed of with household waste, as they can endanger your health and/or have harmful effects on the environment. Have your private problem and pollutants professionally disposed of by the Hamburg city cleaning department. You can use the recycling centers, the arrival service or the mobile collection of problematic materials.

The problem collection includes:
- Batteries (delivery of car batteries to the recycling centers)
- Fluorescent tubes, energy-saving lamps, LED lamps
- thermometer
- Paint and varnish residues, anti-rust agents, acids, lyes, stains, plant and wood preservatives, stain removers and impregnating agents, adhesives, shoe polish and waxes
- Thinners and solvents such as acetone, turpentine, petrol and nitro thinner, brake fluid
- weed and pesticides
- Chemicals, toxins and salts (e.g. from private photo laboratories and experiment kits)
- Spray cans and other containers with leftovers from the types of waste mentioned
- Eternit flower boxes
- The recycling yards of the Hamburg city cleaning department and the mobile collection of problematic substances accept problematic substances in normal household quantities free of charge.
- Fees are charged for some types of waste. Please refer to the information on the Hamburg City Cleaning website (see "Links" section).
- If you want to use the Hamburg cleaning service, you pay a flat rate of 25 euros.

Please hand in the problematic materials in closed, labeled and unbreakable containers (preferably in the original packaging). The Hamburg city cleaning department only accepts car batteries, flower boxes made of Eternit (moistened, packed in tear-resistant foil) and fire extinguishers at the recycling yards.
