Facilities that emit volatile halogenated organic compounds (VOCs) are often a focus of environmental legislation. These substances can cause significant environmental impacts and health risks. Many of these substances contribute to ozone depletion. They can be carcinogenic, neurotoxic, or liver-damaging.
They are often found in the chemical industry, for example, in the production of solvents and coolants, or in cleaning processes, for example, in the metal and electronics industries. They are also used in the plastics and pharmaceutical industries.
Emissions often arise from evaporation, leaks or inefficient recovery and disposal.
If you wish to operate a facility that is not subject to a permit and where such emissions may occur, you must notify the competent authority of this facility.
