If you want to discharge wastewater (sewage or stormwater) into a public sewage treatment plant or sewer system, you need a permit. Here you can find information about costs, duration, and required documents.
As a rule, you need a permit to discharge
- non-domestic wastewater,
- Excavation pit water, drilling mud water and wastewater from remediation
- Groundwater from structural drainage systems
- Rainwater in the case of a discharge limitation,
- adversely altered rainwater.
The required documents depend on the nature of your request. Please see the "Links" section for details.
The wastewater is qualitatively and quantitatively suitable for discharge into a public wastewater treatment plant.
- You submit your application to the responsible authority.
- If you would like to apply for a permit to discharge excavation water, drilling fluid or wastewater from remediation, an online service is available.
- If you wish to apply for a permit for a different type of discharge, please submit your application in writing.
- If necessary, the responsible authority may request further documents from you.
- The responsible authority will examine your application and decide on approval.

No. However, you must have approval before you begin the initiation process. You should therefore submit the application well in advance of the intended start of your project.
The discharge permit may be subject to conditions regarding wastewater pretreatment and self-monitoring, as well as reporting obligations that you must comply with. Your discharge permit may be time-limited.
For certain discharges, you do not need a permit (for example, domestic wastewater and unadversely altered rainwater without a discharge volume limit). However, certain discharges must be reported.
