The water register is an official register, similar to the land register. You can view the water book. By viewing the water book you can obtain the following information in particular:
- granted permits and authorizations as well as rights and authorities,
- Planning approval decisions and planning approvals,
- water protection areas,
- risk areas
- designated flood plains
Simply viewing the water book is free of charge. There is a cost of EUR 1.65 per page for the creation of excerpts.
- You submit an informal, written request to the responsible authority to inspect the water record.

- You will be granted access or an extract will be provided to you.
Depending on the type and scope of your application, it may take 1-4 weeks until you can be granted access.
A separate water register is kept by the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) for water rights in the port area (excluding discharges, withdrawals and groundwater). You can find out about the respective contents of the water registers online in the metadata portal METAVER.
