If you have suffered harm as a result of unlawful detention, you can claim social compensation benefits.
Persons of German nationality who were exiled after the Second World War
- in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) or
- in the Soviet sector of Berlin or
- in the Eastern Bloc countries
If you were taken into custody for political reasons, you may be entitled to financial compensation. You may also be entitled to compensation as a family member or surviving dependent.
If you wish to receive benefits, you must submit an application to the relevant agency.
- You submit your application together with the necessary documents to the responsible authority.
- The responsible authority will examine your application and, if necessary, request any missing documents and information from you.
- You will receive written notification of the decision on your application.
There are no deadlines to be observed when submitting an application. Any benefits will only be granted from the time the application is submitted.
