In order to prevent dental diseases or to detect them at an early stage, you as a person with health insurance can take advantage of preventive dental services.
As a person with health insurance, you can receive preventive dental services (prophylactic measures). These are designed to detect and treat any dental, oral and jaw diseases at an early stage. Your health insurance provider is responsible for providing these services.
The dental check-up for adults includes:
- the guide to effective oral hygiene,
- Tips for reducing risk factors
- the removal of hard deposits and caries or of irritants that can cause gingivitis.
As a rule, your health insurance company will cover the costs for you. You may have to pay for measures that exceed your agreed insurance coverage yourself.
- You make an appointment for preventative care at your dentist’s office.
- Your dentist will carry out the examination and bill your health insurance company.
The preventive medical examination is scheduled once a year. There may be deadlines for carrying out certain services. Your health insurance provider can provide you with information on this.
