If you want to practice as a dentist in Germany without restrictions, you need state authorization: the Approbation.
After your studies and specialist training, you can apply for a license to practice as a dentist. Once you have been granted a license to practice as a dentist, you are entitled to practice the profession independently and under your own responsibility in Germany.
The license is granted for an unlimited period and is valid for the entire Federal Republic of Germany.
- Proof of identity
- Birth certificate or a current extract from the parents’ family register
- if applicable, marriage certificate/registered civil partnership (proof in case of name change)
- tabular CV
- Official certificate of good conduct (certificate type O)
- The certificate of the dental examination in the original or a certified copy.
- Statement as to whether criminal proceedings or a public prosecutor’s investigation are pending against you
- Medical certificate, not older than one month, stating that you are not unfit for the profession due to health reasons
- You have completed the required training and passed the state examination.
- You have not been guilty of any conduct which would render you unworthy or unreliable to perform your profession.
- You are not unsuitable for the profession due to health reasons.
- You have the knowledge of the German language required to carry out your professional activities.
- You submit the application for approval, including all required documents, to the responsible authority.
- The responsible authority will confirm receipt of your application and documents within one month and will inform you which documents are missing.
- The responsible authority checks the approval requirements.
- After successful completion, you will be issued with a certificate of approval against acknowledgement of receipt or with a certificate of delivery.
The responsible authority will decide no later than three months after receipt of your complete application.
Objections to this notification can be raised within one month of notification at the office specified in the letterhead.
