§ 4 Livestock Trade Ordinance (ViehVerkV)

You must notify the responsible authority in advance of any livestock exhibitions, livestock markets, cattle shows, competitions or similar events involving livestock.

Special regulations apply to events involving livestock. Livestock includes all farm animals, such as cattle, pigs, horses, sheep, and goats.
As the organizer of a livestock exhibition, livestock market, livestock show, livestock competition or similar event, you must notify the organizer that it is taking place.

The responsible authority may restrict or prohibit events if this is necessary for reasons of animal disease control. The responsible authority will inform you of any restrictions or prohibitions.

Informal written or electronic notification

• It is one of the following livestock events:
  • Livestock exhibition
  • cattle market
  • Cattle show
  • Competition with livestock
  • Event of a similar nature
• The animals are farm animals of the livestock category:
  • Horses, donkeys, hinnies, mules, zebras and zebroids,
  • Cattle including bison, wisent and water buffalo,
  • sheep and goats,
  • pigs,
  • Hares, rabbits,
  • Ducks, pheasants, geese, chickens, ratites, guinea fowl, partridges, pigeons, turkeys and quails,
  • Game animals,
  • Camelids
• The place where the cattle exhibition or cattle market is to be held or set up is fenced in such a way that the animals can only be moved through monitored entrances and exits.
• Paths and roads as well as areas for loading and unloading livestock transport vehicles are paved, easy to clean and disinfect.
• A special area with a liquid-impermeable floor and pressurized water is available for cleaning and disinfecting vehicles.
• The ground of the site slopes towards a drain connected to the sewer system or other wastewater disposal facility.
• Rooms for the temporary accommodation of livestock shall have a liquid-impermeable floor and smooth, easy-to-clean and disinfect walls.
• Accommodation areas for livestock are sufficiently illuminated.
• Where necessary, the rooms are divided into pens and have tethering devices.
• There is a special room for the isolation of animals suffering from disease or suspected of being infected.
• Facilities for cleaning and disinfecting hands and footwear are available for those involved in buoyancy.
• There is a suitable facility for storing animal by-products.

You can submit the notification informally in written or electronic form or via the online service.

If you would like to submit the notification in writing by post or email:

• Describe your request and provide all necessary information:
  • Type of event
• Send the notification by email or post to the responsible authority.
• The responsible authority will review your report. If necessary, the responsible authority may request additional documents or information from you.
• If your event needs to be restricted or banned, you will receive feedback from the responsible authority.
• If the responsible authority doesn't contact you, you may hold the event. You don't need a separate permit.

If you would like to place the ad via the online service:

• You register with the online service and log in with your access data.
• You fill out the notification form
• You upload all necessary documents and evidence.
• The responsible authority will review your report. If necessary, the responsible authority may request additional documents or information from you.
• If your event needs to be restricted or banned, you will receive feedback from the responsible authority.
• If the responsible authority doesn't contact you, you may hold the event. You don't need a separate permit.

1 to 3 weeks

Place the advertisement at least 4 weeks before the planned event.

The online service is currently only available for the district of Hamburg-Mitte.
