Would you like to work permanently as a food chemist in Germany? Then you must have your foreign professional qualification recognised.
The profession of food chemist is regulated in Germany. This means that you must have a certain qualification in order to be allowed to work in the profession. If you have a foreign professional qualification as a food chemist, you can work in this profession in the federal state you have chosen. To do this, you must submit an application with all the necessary documents to the responsible state authority.
In the recognition process, the responsible state authority compares your professional qualification from abroad with the professional qualification in the selected federal state and makes a determination of equivalence. You will receive feedback after your application has been reviewed.
If your professional qualifications are equivalent and you meet all other requirements, you may use the professional title “food chemist”.

- Certification that the profession may be practiced in the country of training
- Information on applications for recognition that have already been submitted. Then indicate to which office you submitted the application.
- Equivalency of your professional qualification
- You must be authorized to practice the profession in the country of training.
- You can submit an application to the responsible state authority to determine the equivalence of your training as a food chemist. You must submit all the necessary documents in the form of copies to the responsible authority.
- The responsible body then checks: Is your professional qualification equivalent to the professional qualification in your federal state? For example, the content of the training and the duration of the training are important for the comparison. The responsible body also takes into account your professional experience, other certificates of competence and qualifications.
- The responsible authority may then check further requirements.
- If your professional qualification is equivalent and you meet all other requirements, your professional qualification will be recognized. You can then work as a food chemist in the federal state.
- If the competent authority cannot determine equivalence, you will receive a notice explaining the essential differences. To compensate for essential differences, you can take a compensatory measure.
- If you successfully complete the compensatory measure and meet the other requirements, you will receive recognition.
