Regardless of your qualifications as a skilled worker, you can obtain a residence permit to work if you meet certain requirements.
If you practice certain professions or have special qualifications, you can obtain a residence permit for employment even without a special skilled worker qualification. This residence permit is available for certain professions that are specifically regulated in the Employment Ordinance. These include, for example, seasonal work, employment as a domestic worker, specialty chef, and professional driver.
To be granted this residence permit, you do not need to have completed a university degree or qualified vocational training, as it does not require any skilled worker qualifications within the meaning of the Residence Act.
If you are a citizen of certain countries, you can obtain a residence permit for any type of employment, regardless of your qualifications, if you meet additional requirements. These include the following countries:
- Andorra, Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, Republic of Korea, Monaco, New Zealand, San Marino and the USA
- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia
This residence permit is temporary and depends on the duration of your employment contract or the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. Generally, the Federal Employment Agency must approve your employment. There are sometimes exceptions to this approval requirement.

If you earn less than that, you must provide evidence of adequate retirement savings.
