Hinweise

If you plan to take weapons to Germany, you must prove your need, your reliability under firearms law, your personal suitability and your expertise. Citizens of EU member states, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland can use the European Firearms Pass as proof. Citizens of third countries must present meaningful official documents from their home country with a German translation. If you are unable to provide information about weapons and ammunition when you apply, you must do so at the latest when you enter the country.

It is important to state the reason for temporarily taking the weapons with you, for example an invitation to go hunting, to take part in a shooting competition or a traditional event. If you are applying for a shooting team, you can enter the names of all participants on a separate sheet of paper and the permit will be issued for all applicants together.

You do not need a permit if you want to bring up to 3 long guns and the corresponding ammunition as a hunter, up to 6 firearms and the corresponding ammunition as a sports shooter, or up to 3 single-shot or repeating long guns and the corresponding ammunition as a traditional marksman from an EU member state, Switzerland, Liechtenstein or Iceland to Germany. However, the weapons you are taking with you must be registered in your European Firearms Pass. As a citizen of a third country, you do not have to prove that you are of legal age or have the necessary expertise in these cases.

You do not need a European Firearms Pass if you, as a sports shooter or traditional marksman, want to take certain weapons from Austria to Bavaria or vice versa.

You also do not need a permit to bring weapons and ammunition into Germany if you are bringing weapons and ammunition for which you have permission to purchase and own them (weapons ownership card - WBK), carrying signal weapons and the associated ammunition on board ships for security reasons, or carrying weapons and ammunition on board a ship or aircraft that are kept under lock and key at all times in Germany. These weapons and ammunition must be reported immediately to the relevant authority and must be taken out of Germany within one month at the latest.

If you want to take weapons and ammunition from Germany to an EU member state, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland, you need permission to purchase and own weapons and ammunition (weapons ownership card - WBK), a European firearms pass in which the weapons you want to take with you are registered, as well as the consent of the state to which you want to take the weapons and ammunition or credible proof that no permit is required. You must also ensure that the weapons and ammunition are transported safely. You can also hire a shipping company for this. Before taking them with you, you should find out about the conditions in the state under which taking them with you is permitted or not permitted.

If you want to take weapons and ammunition from Germany to a third country, you do not need a German permit. Here too, you should find out about the conditions in the country under which taking them with you is permitted or not permitted before taking them with you.
