According to Section 38 Paragraph 1 HmbSG, children who have reached the age of 6 before 1 July become compulsory school attendants on 1 August of the same calendar year.
According to Section 38 Paragraph 2 of the HmbSG, children born after July 1st can be enrolled in school early upon application by their legal guardians, taking into account their intellectual, psychological, physical and linguistic level of development.
Parents whose children will be required to attend school on August 1st will receive an invitation letter from their regional school as part of the registration round for first-graders.
