You can apply for financial assistance to prevent you from losing your apartment due to rent arrears.

If you have already been given notice to vacate your apartment, you can receive advice and assistance.

Under certain conditions, your rent arrears can be covered as a loan or as a subsidy so that you can keep your apartment or accommodation.

You can also apply for assistance if your tenancy has already been terminated.

You can get advice on how to reduce your debt, for example through installment payments.

You have no legal right to have your rent arrears taken over.

Please submit the following documents with your application:

• Proof of your income,
• Proof of your financial situation and
• Evidence of the current status of the tenancy

• They receive citizen’s allowance.
• The rent for your apartment is reasonable.
• Your landlord has agreed to continue the tenancy with you. You have a written statement of this.
• You intend to stay in the apartment for a longer period of time.
• You cannot eliminate the rent arrears on your own, for example by agreeing to pay in installments.
• In the future, you will be able to pay the rent yourself, for example through direct payments from the responsible service provider.

There are no costs involved.

• You apply to the responsible authority for the assumption of your rent debts with the necessary documents.
• The responsible authority will review your application and supporting documents. If necessary, they may request additional documents or information from you.
• The responsible authority will decide on your application.
• You will receive a notification.

The processing time depends on the individual case.

Apply for the assumption of your rent arrears as soon as possible to avoid losing your apartment.
