From January 1, 2024, the children's passport will no longer be available as a travel document. You can use your child's current passport until it is no longer valid.

After December 31, 2023, you will no longer be able to renew children's passports.

Do you need a new travel document for your child?

You can apply for a passport or identity card for your child. Please find out about these travel documents before the appointment. You can access the service descriptions "Applying for an ID card" and "Applying for a passport - for people under 18" via the links under "Further information" - "Where can I find out more".

Appointments that have already been made remain valid. You can apply for an ID card or passport for your child on site.

The current legal requirements for passport photos can be found under "Further information" - " Notes on digital passport photos ".

It will no longer be possible to apply for and renew a child's passport from 01.01.2024. You have the option of applying for an identity card or passport for your child.

• Important note: the children must always be present in person!
• Proof of identity

  e.g. old or invalid identity card, valid passport or birth certificate for young children who do not yet have a passport or identity card.

• 1 QR code to retrieve a digital passport photo or take your photo directly at the BürgerServiceCenter

  Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. Under "Further information" - "Notes on digital passport photos" you will find further important information.

• For children under 16 years of age:

  Special declaration of consent (explicitly related to the issuing of the identity card) of the person with custody, as well as their identity cards (also copies) and, if applicable, proof of custody.

• in the case of a change of name, a document or certificate from the registry office
• It will no longer be possible to apply for and renew a child's passport from 01.01.2024. You have the option of applying for an identity card or passport for your child.
• For passports - declaration of consent from the legal guardian
