If, due to a significant disability, you are not, not yet or not yet again able to pursue an activity on the general labor market, workshops for disabled people offer you the possibility of participation in or integration into working life under certain conditions.
The state of Bremen pursues the goal of integration and normalization in the design of work and occupational opportunities for people with disabilities. Three workshops for disabled people are available in Bremen as vocational rehabilitation facilities for participation in and integration into working life. These workshops offer:
- disabled people who, due to the nature and severity of their disability, are not, not yet, or not yet able to return to work in the general labor market, the opportunity to engage in appropriate activity
- vocational measures in the vocational training area in combination with measures for the further development of the personality
- the possibility to develop, increase or regain the individual performance capacity
- a wage commensurate with the individual's ability to perform, which is usually covered by the social welfare agency.
In order to be admitted to a workshop for disabled persons, the disabled person must be able to perform a minimum level of economically viable work. This is not the case if a person, despite care within the workshop, significantly endangers himself or others or if he requires care that does not permit an economically usable work performance.
- An entrance procedure serves to determine whether a person is suitable for work in a workshop for disabled people and which activity he or she can perform. The determination of employability is carried out by the workshops for disabled people recognized in Bremen on behalf of the Federal Employment Agency Bremen.
- The introductory procedure lasts three months, unless it is determined in individual cases that a shorter duration is sufficient.
- At the end of the initial procedure, a specialist committee assesses the suitability of the disabled person on the basis of the workshop's proposals and after hearing the disabled person or, if applicable, his or her legal representative, taking into account all individual factors.
Workshops for disabled people must provide specialized services (doctors, psychologists, social workers or others) to take care of their employees, taking care of the needs of disabled people.
