If you want to run a restaurant business yourself or with a company, you must apply for a permit in accordance with the Bremen Restaurant Act at the Citizens' and Public Order Office.

A catering trade is a business which provides drinks or food for consumption on the premises on a commercial basis.

Anyone who runs a catering business by serving alcoholic beverages requires permission.

The Bürger- und Ordnungsamt is the competent authority for receiving applications for permits to operate restaurants in Bremerhaven in accordance with § 2 Para. 1 Bremisches Gaststättengesetz (BremGastG).

• Identity card or passport with a current registration certificate

  in the case of representation with written power of attorney: identity card or passport of the authorised representative, as well as a copy of the identity card of the principal

• Certificate in tax matters of the tax office

  (to be applied for at the tax office of the place of residence)

• Information from the insolvency court as to whether proceedings have been opened

  (to be applied for at the district court of the place of residence)

• Certificate of good conduct in document type OG (for submission to an authority)

  (to be applied for at the local registration office responsible for your residence)

• Extract from the list of debtors of the enforcement court

  (to be applied for at the district court of the place of residence)

• Information from the central trade register in document type 9

  (to be applied for at the local registration office responsible for your residence)

• For corporations (GmbH/UG/AG)

  - the above-mentioned documents for legal representation (management) must be submitted or obtained.

  - Information from the central trade register in document type 9 (for the corporation)

  - Extract from the commercial register and shareholder agreement

• For clubs

  - the above-mentioned documents are to be presented or obtained for the chairman/chairwoman of the board

  - Information from the central trade register in document type 9 (for the corporation)

  - Extract from the register of associations

The application for permits to operate restaurants and bars in Bremerhaven must be submitted to the Bürger- und Ordnungsamt as the d the locally competent licensing authority in writing or in person. A representative may also be appointed with a written power of attorney.
