The citizens' offices may provide you with information about the address of a specific resident, among other things, within the framework of data protection regulations.
Simple information from the population register in accordance with § 44 of the Federal Registration Act
- it is not possible to obtain information by telephone (i.e. only in person, in writing or by fax)
- For written requests for information, the corresponding application form "Application for simple information from the register of residents" must be used. A reason for the request must be stated.
The form is available from the registration office or can be downloaded under "Forms". - Contains only the current address of a person
Extended registration information according to § 45 Federal Registration Act
- Information cannot be provided by telephone (i.e. only in person, in writing or by fax)
- a legitimate interest must be substantiated
- may contain more than just a person's current address, namely
- previous first names and surnames
- date and place of birth
- legal representative
- nationalities
- previous addresses
- date of moving in and out
- marital status, limited to whether married or in a civil partnership or not
- first names and surnames and address of spouse or civil partner
- date and place of death
- Requests for information on the population register can only be made in person, in writing or by fax (not by e-mail) at the citizens' registration offices .
- For written requests for information, the corresponding application form "Antrag auf Erteilung einer einfachen Melderegisterauskunft" must be used. (Available at the registration office or for download under "Forms").
- An informal application is sufficient for requests for extended information from the population register; the justified interest must be substantiated.
- Telephone information is not possible.
If a searched person has moved, the requesting person or agency is informed of the address where the person has moved.
A neutral answer is given if no person or several persons can be found in the population register with the information provided by the inquiring person or agency. A neutral answer will also be given if a block on information pursuant to Section 51 BMG or a conditional blocking notice pursuant to Section 52 BMG exists or other interests worthy of protection pursuant to Section 8 BMG conflict with the provision of information. This serves the purpose of preventing an inference from the answer of the registration office as to the existence of an information block or a conditional blocking notice. The neutral answer is:
" For factual or legal reasons, information cannot be provided or cannot be provided at present. be provided."
