With a pole fishing license you may fish in the following areas:

• in the Weser within the Bremen state border
• in the Kleine Weser
• in the Lesum upstream to the Burger road bridge
• in the tidal part of the Geeste

Fishing is not permitted in nature conservation and fish protection areas.

The pole fishing license entitles the holder to fish with a maximum of 2 poles.

Amendment to the Bremen cane fishing law

With immediate effect, you must present proof of having passed a fishing test if you wish to apply for a pole fishing license.

Verification of already issued pole fishing licenses

All holders of a stock fishing license who acquired it before 31.12.2024 must subsequently take a fishing test. Otherwise their current stock fishing license will lose its validity.

The following deadlines apply:

• stock fishing licenses issued before 01.01.2010 lose their validity at the end of 31.12.2026
• Stock fishing permits issued after 01.01.2010 and up to 31.12.2019 lose their validity at the end of 31.12.2028
• Stock fishing licenses issued after 01.01.2020 lose their validity at the end of 31.12.2030

With proof of having passed the fishing test, stock fishing licenses issued before 31.12.2024 can be exchanged for an unlimited stock fishing license free of charge.

• Identity card or passport
• Passport photo

  It may or may not be a biometric passport photo.

• Examination certificate for the passed fishing examination

• Main residence in Bremerhaven
• Passed fishing exam

If you would like to apply for a stock fishing license, you will need proof that you have passed the fishing test.

• If you do not yet have this certificate, you must attend a course.
  • You can find and book courses on the website of the Bremen State Fishing Association, for example. You can find the link under "Where can I find out more?".

Do you have proof that you have passed the fishing examination?

• Then you can have a stock fishing license issued.
• You must make an appointment for this.
• By telephone for the Citizens' and Public Order Office in the Public Order Department on 590-3805 or 590-3730
• By telephone or by making an appointment online for the Bürgerbüro Mitte
• Bring all the required documents with you to the appointment.
• After the documents have been checked, you will be issued with a cane fishing license.

• The examination to be taken for the stock fishing license is identical in content to the examination for obtaining a fishing license.
  • With the examination certificate, you can apply for both the pole fishing license and the fishing license.
• If you fish with a pole fishing rod, you must comply with the regulations of the Animal Protection Act, the Federal Nature Conservation Act, the Bremen Nature Conservation Act and the Bremen Fishing Act.
• In the port area, the port authorities can restrict or prohibit the right to pole fishing and fishing in individual cases to ensure proper port operations.
• The competent fishing authorities may restrict or prohibit the right to pole and line fishing in the port area if this is necessary to protect public health.
