If you move into another residence in Germany in addition to your main residence, you must register this as a secondary residence with your local registration office in writing or in person within 2 weeks of moving in.

- If you are under 16 years of age, your new secondary residence must be registered by the person whose home you are moving into.
- If you are over 18 years of age and a carer or guardian has been appointed for you who determines your residence, your new secondary residence must be registered by your carer or guardian.
- You only have to register newborn babies born in Germany if they move to a different home to that of their parents or mother.
- You can register your new secondary residence in person at the registration office responsible for you or through a person authorized by you. You can also apply for your secondary residence in writing.

Identity card, temporary identity card, replacement identity card, recognized and valid passport, recognized and valid passport replacement document.

- You must appear in person at the registration office responsible for you or be represented by a person with power of attorney.
- You present all the necessary documents.
- You will then receive an official registration confirmation from the registration office confirming the registration of your new secondary residence.

- You fill out the registration form and sign it.
- You enclose all the necessary documents.
- Finally, you will receive an official confirmation of registration of your main residence from the registration office.
- The address on your identity card will not be changed.
