The public order service patrols parks and green spaces to check whether dog owners are complying with the leash requirement.

In addition, attention is paid to ensuring that dog owners dispose of dog excrement properly.

Dogs must be kept on a lead in Bremen from March 15 and ends on July 15 of a calendar year (breeding and setting season). During this period, dogs must be kept on a lead if the walk takes them outside the built-up urban area. However, dogs are also restricted in the city. Dogs must be kept on a lead in many parks all year round.

Dogs that are walked in public areas must not endanger road traffic.

As a dog owner, please ensure that your dog does not bark persistently at people or animals, jump at them or cause any other significant disturbance.

In principle, dogs in Bremen may only be walked by people who are physically able to control them. If this is not guaranteed or if there is no experience in dog walking, the person is considered unsuitable to walk a dog. Anyone walking their four-legged friend in stores, shopping centers, public transport and at events must keep it on a lead and observe the respective house rules.

Please ensure that your dog always wears a collar with your name and address outside your own property or home.

The employees of the public order service give instructions, issue free or chargeable warnings, report administrative offenses and take measures for general hazard prevention.

The public order service can levy a warning fine in cash directly on site or report an offense. In this case, you will receive a letter from the fines office.
