Would you like to obtain state recognition after passing the state examination to become an educator at a vocational school for social pedagogy in the state of Bremen? Find out more here.
The profession of educator is regulated in Germany. This means that you must have a certain qualification in order to be allowed to work in the profession. If you have completed a vocational school for social pedagogy in Bremen with the state examination and have successfully completed the professional internship, you can work in this profession nationwide with state recognition.
To do this, you must register with the relevant state authorities (Senatorische Behörde für Kinder und Bildung - Referat 31 or the public vocational schools for social pedagogy) for the professional internship with all the necessary documents.
In Bremen, the certificate of state recognition is issued by the Senatorische Behörde für Kinder und Bildung - Referat 31, provided that you have passed the state examination to become an educator in the state of Bremen and have subsequently demonstrated your professional aptitude in a one-year internship.
The certificate of state recognition is issued after you have passed a colloquium. Admission to the colloquium is granted on application once all the necessary evidence has been provided.
If you have attended a public vocational school (Inge-Katz-Schule, Schulzentrum Blumenthal, BS Sophie-Scholl Bremerhaven), you will be accompanied there during the subsequent professional internship for state recognition.
If you attended a private vocational school (Paritätisches Bildungswerk Bremen, ibs Bremen) or passed the state examination via a non-pupil examination, you must contact the Senatorial Authority for Children and Education - Department 31.

You will then receive unsolicited notification of the dates of your practical training.
After submitting an interim assessment to the responsible supervising body halfway through the year of recognition, in which you are expected to pass the internship, you will then receive the application for admission to the colloquium.
If you have successfully completed the work placement and passed the colloquium, you will receive the certificate of state recognition from the Senatorial Authority for Children and Education - Department 31.
Career entry year
If you would like to complete the career entry year, please send your registration for the career entry year to the responsible office 2 months before the start. You will then receive unsolicited notification of the dates of your practical courses.
After 9 months, an application for crediting professional activities to the professional internship in accordance with § 8 (2) 3 of the regulations for state recognition of educators in the state of Bremen dated January 16, 2023 (AO) with a differentiated assessment, in which a probable passing of the career entry year is predicted, must be submitted to the responsible accompanying office.
You will then receive the application for admission to the colloquium. If you have successfully completed the career entry year and passed the colloquium, you will receive the certificate of state recognition from the Senatorial Authority for Children and Education - Department 31.
Having professional activity credited
If you would like to have your professional activity credited towards your internship, please contact the responsible office. You will then receive the relevant application forms and the further procedure will be discussed with you individually.

Working as a pedagogical specialist
You may be able to work as a so-called educational specialist without being recognized as an educator. You can then work in a day care center, for example. The responsible office or your employer will inform you about this possibility.
