The Measles Protection Act serves to protect the population from measles.

The measures taken so far to increase vaccination rates have not yet led to a sufficient number of people in Germany being vaccinated against measles. There are still vaccination gaps, meaning that several 100 to a few 1,000 people in Germany continue to contract measles every year. However, the elimination of measles is possible if 95% of the population is protected against measles.

The law is intended to increase vaccination protection in areas where measles transmission can occur very quickly if not enough people are protected against measles. In particular, children in daycare centers or after-school care, schools and other community facilities should be effectively protected against measles.

The following persons born after December 31, 1970 must have either sufficient vaccination protection against measles or immunity against measles:

(a) persons who are cared for in a community facility (Section 33(4)),

Persons who have already been 4 weeks:

b) are accommodated in a facility (Section 36 (1) number 4) or

c) are working in a facility in accordance with Section 23 (3) sentence 1, Section 33 numbers 1 to 4 or Section 36 (1) number 4.
