Do you need free geodata for further digital processing in a geoinformation system (GIS) or computer-aided design (CAD)? Are you missing digital data from the real estate cadastre for in-depth analyses or just a digital map as a background image? Or would you like to use a digital city map to help users of your Internet application find their way around the city?
The term geodata refers to all digital data with a direct or indirect reference to a specific location or geographical area. It is therefore also referred to as spatial data or data with a spatial reference. Spatial reference means that the data is clearly assigned to a specific point on the earth's surface. This spatial reference can exist directly by means of a coordinate or indirectly via a geographical identifier, such as an address, a zip code or the area of a district. Geodata consists of geometric data and the associated attribute data. They can be available in a variety of forms. Geodata are contained in maps and plans, can be hidden in a table, a graphic or a database or they are presented with the help of services, for example Web Map Service (WMS) or geoinformation systems (GIS).
