If you are a landowner or owner of a private residential unit (apartments, terraced houses and detached houses), a waste disposal fee applies. Find out more here.
The waste fee is made up of the annual basic fee, the annual service fee and any fees for additional emptying.
Basic fee
The basic fee is charged for each private residential unit. Private residential units are apartments, terraced houses and detached houses. This also includes vacant units that do not have a residual waste garbage can on site.
All residents and businesses are charged a share of the fixed costs incurred via the basic fee. These fixed costs are independent of the amount of waste and serve to maintain waste management operations. Fixed costs include
- personnel
- Vehicle fleet and equipment
- Operation of recycling stations and container sites
Service fee
The remaining fixed costs and all variable costs of waste management are included in the service fee. These services include
- Provision and emptying of residual waste, organic waste and paper bins
- Collection of bulky waste
- Disposal and recycling of waste and recyclable materials
The service charge is levied via the residual waste garbage can and is based on the size of the garbage can and the number of times it is emptied. The size is calculated based on the number of people living in the household (including children).
Additional fees
Additional charges are incurred if the residual waste garbage can has been emptied more frequently than the specified standard emptying times in a calendar year - the standard emptying times are 9 emptying times for single-person households and 18 emptying times for multi-person households.
- Customer number

- Bank account
- You are a property owner or owner of a private residential unit.
- You are resident in the municipality of Bremen.
Fee for each additional emptying: If you exceed the specified standard emptying times per calendar year a fee will be charged for each additional emptying.
You can pay the waste disposal fee in two ways:
SEPA procedure
- With a SEPA direct debit mandate, you give us permission to collect the fees from you.
Invoice
- Every year, you will receive a waste disposal fee notice showing the amount to be paid. You can pay this by invoice.
If the number of people living in the household changes, you are obliged to report this change.
Each inhabited property must be equipped with sufficiently large residual waste garbage cans.
