You can return your batteries free of charge to the respective collection points and recycling stations.
Batteries are non-rechargeable (or only very limited) storage units for electrical energy. They are also referred to as primary cells. The Battery Act classifies batteries according to their area of application. A distinction is made between portable, vehicle and industrial batteries.
Accumulators are rechargeable storage elements, also known as secondary cells. Several interconnected secondary cells are also referred to as a battery. The main components of batteries are usually metals. Their recovery contributes to the conservation of resources. However, batteries also contain substances that are hazardous to health and the environment. For this reason, disposal with residual waste is prohibited.
Taking back batteries is mainly the responsibility of the battery distributors (retailers). Bremer Stadtreinigung also offers the disposal of batteries separately at recycling stations.
- The delivery of waste and recyclable materials is only permitted with vehicles with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 tons
- The delivery of waste and recyclable materials must be sorted by type and free of harmful contaminants and adhesions.
- The batteries come from a private household in Bremen that is connected to the municipal waste disposal system.
- Old batteries and accumulators under 500g can be handed in at the recycling stations.
- Batteries over 500g and bicycle batteries only at the Blockland and Hastedt recycling stations.
- Batteries and rechargeable batteries must be placed in the appropriately labeled containers.
Transport packaging and containers must be taken back by the deliverers. The waste, recyclable materials and hazardous substances become the property of Die Bremer Stadtreinigung when they are placed in the collection bins/containers or handed over to the operating personnel. This also applies if they have already been unloaded or secured.
The deliverers are obliged to provide information about the origin of the waste and/or recyclables they deliver. The station's operating personnel are authorized to inspect all waste delivered and to reject waste, recyclables and hazardous substances, even if they have already been unloaded.
You can also hand in batteries free of charge at any store that sells batteries.
Car batteries, also known as starter batteries, are only taken back by specialist dealers via a deposit system.
