You must notify the competent authority in advance of livestock exhibitions, livestock markets, livestock shows, competitions or similar events involving livestock.

Special obligations apply to events with livestock. Livestock includes all farm animals such as cattle, pigs, horses, sheep and goats.
If you wish to hold a livestock exhibition, a livestock market, a livestock show, a competition with livestock or a similar event, you must notify the authorities.

The competent authority may restrict or prohibit the events if this is necessary for reasons of animal disease control. You will be informed of any restrictions or bans.

Informal written or electronic notification

• This is one of the following events:
  • Livestock exhibition
  • cattle market
  • cattle show
  • Competition with livestock
  • Event of a similar nature
• The animals are farm animals in the livestock category. These include:
  • Horses, donkeys, mules, hinnies, zebras and zebroids,
  • Cattle including bison, bison and water buffalo,
  • sheep and goats,
  • pigs,
  • hares, rabbits,
  • ducks, pheasants, geese, chickens, ratites, guinea fowl, partridges, pigeons, turkeys and quails,
  • game birds,
  • camelids
• The place where the livestock exhibition or livestock market is to be held or set up must be fenced in such a way that the animals can only be moved through monitored entrances and exits.
• Paths and roads as well as places for loading and unloading livestock transport vehicles must be paved, easy to clean and disinfectable.
• A special area with a liquid-impermeable floor and pressurized water is available for cleaning and disinfecting vehicles.
• The floor of the area slopes down to a drain that is connected to the sewage system or another facility for the disposal of waste water.
• Rooms for the temporary accommodation of livestock have a liquid-impermeable floor and smooth, easy-to-clean and disinfectable walls.
• Accommodation rooms for livestock must be adequately lit.
• Where necessary, the rooms are divided into pens and have tethering facilities.
• There is a special room for isolating infected or suspect animals.
• Facilities for cleaning and disinfecting hands and footwear are available for people working on the drive.
• There is a suitable facility for storing animal by-products.

If you wish to submit the complaint in writing by post or e-mail:

• Describe your request, providing all the necessary information:
  • Type of event
• Send the notification by e-mail or by post to the responsible office.
• The competent authority will check your notification. If necessary, the competent authority will request further documents or information from you.
• If your event has to be restricted or banned, you will receive feedback from the competent authority.
• If the competent authority does not contact you, you may hold the event. You do not require a separate permit.

If you wish to submit the notification via the online service:

• You register with the online service and log in with your access data.
• You fill in the notification form
• You upload all the necessary documents and evidence.
• The responsible office checks your notification. If necessary, the competent authority will request further documents or information from you.
• If your event has to be restricted or banned, you will receive feedback from the competent authority.
• If the competent authority does not contact you, you may hold the event. You do not require a separate permit.

Processing takes 1 to 3 weeks.

Submit the notification at least 4 weeks before the planned event.
