Anyone who works in marginal employment and earns a salary below the marginal earnings threshold (mini-job) is not liable for health insurance.
If you are in low-paid employment (mini-job), you are exempt from insurance in this employment. You do not have to pay any contributions for this.
You must therefore arrange your health insurance elsewhere.
For example:
- Compulsory insurance in the statutory health insurance scheme
- Voluntary health insurance (statutory or private)
- Family insurance via your spouse, registered partner or parents
- Mini-job as a second job: health insurance is covered by the main job
- Mini-job with citizen's allowance: the job center may take over the health insurance
The exemption from insurance does not apply to employment in the context of company vocational training, under the Youth Voluntary Service Act and the Federal Voluntary Service Act.
The exemption from compulsory health insurance only lasts as long as the reason for the exemption continues.
You can obtain further information from
- your health insurance company
or
- the Minijob Center
Employees in marginal employment (mini-job) are exempt from the statutory health insurance obligation for this employment.
