Do you want or need to terminate your studies? Then you can apply for de-registration at your university.

Students can apply for de-registration at their own request. After exmatriculation, you are no longer enrolled at the university.

Exmatriculation takes effect at the time requested or at the end of the semester. Retroactive exmatriculation upon application is usually only possible in the same semester.

After exmatriculation has taken place, a pension and exmatriculation certificate will be issued. You will need this certificate, among other things, for the pension insurance, the BAföG office, the child benefit office or for enrollment at another university.

At the same time, the certificate serves as proof of the respective period of study at the university.

Exmatriculation also takes place ex officio, for example, if the current semester fee or fees due have not been paid or requirements have not been fulfilled and there has also been no response to a notice of default. If you have completed your studies or have definitively failed examinations, you will also be exmatriculated ex officio if you have not applied for exmatriculation yourself.

Application for de-registration

You must be an enrolled student at a university.

The application for de-registration and the issuance of a de-registration certificate are free of charge for you.

• You can apply for de-registration at the university where you are enrolled.
• After the de-registration has been carried out, a corresponding pension and de-registration certificate will be issued.
• When applying for de-registration, certain confirmations of deregistration may have to be obtained.
• At the Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University, the practice partner will also be informed of the de-registration, who can then assert a special right of termination with regard to the training contract.

Usually, an application for de-registration is processed in a few days and the de-registration certificate is issued.

You can apply for exmatriculation at any time during the semester. It is recommended to apply within the re-registration period if you want to be exmatriculated at the end of the semester.

In the case of a self-requested de-registration, there is usually no requirement for an appeal.

You can file an objection against an ex officio exmatriculation.

If the decision of the university is not changed in your favor, you can file a lawsuit before the competent administrative court.
