The new Federal Registration Act comes into force on November 1, 2015.
Anyone moving into an apartment must register with the relevant authority within two weeks.
Comply with your registration obligation to avoid unnecessary problems and hassle. Failure to comply with the obligation to register can lead to problems with vehicle registration, obtaining a driving license or applying for a certificate of good conduct.
You will also need to change your identity card and, if necessary, your vehicle registration document.
- Identity card and/or passport as proof of identity and for changing the apartment details
- Confirmation from the landlord
- The following data and documents are also required for
- persons moving from abroad:
- the last residential address in Germany (registration confirmation, date of moving in and out)
- persons in care:
- written power of attorney or guardian's identity card
- Persons who cannot appear in person:
- written power of attorney and identification documents of the person to be registered
- persons moving from abroad:
There are no fees. Late reports exceeding the reporting deadline of 2 weeks can be punished with a fine.
Registrations are usually processed immediately. You will receive a free confirmation of your registration.
The responsibility lies with the municipality, the Joint Community and the city to which you have moved.
