If you are working in a job that involves food for the first time, you will need a certificate from the health authority.
If you produce, process or sell food and come into contact with it directly or indirectly, for example via dishes or cutlery, you need a certificate from the health authority. This also applies if you want to work in kitchens in restaurants, canteens, cafés or similar establishments for the first time.
This certificate confirms that you have taken part in a training course on hygiene measures and infection protection. It is valid for life.
The certificate is issued either by the health authority itself or by an appointed doctor.

- Identity card or passport with confirmation of registration
- If you live outside of Hamburg, you will need written proof from your employer in Hamburg.
- If the instruction is to be given to a person under 16 years of age, the legal guardian or authorized person will need their identity card or passport and, if necessary, a power of attorney.
- If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you need permission from your legal guardian.
- If you wish to apply for a fee exemption, you will need proof that the legal requirements are met.
- You want to work for the first time in a job that involves producing, processing or selling food and coming into direct contact with it.
- There is no evidence that you have a contagious disease such as salmonella or shigellosis.
- The training takes place no more than 3 months before you start your activity. The certificate must not be older than 3 months when you start your activity.
- If you are under 16 years of age, you must bring an adult accompanying you to the instruction who will present an ID and a power of attorney.
- If you are under 18 years old, you will also need written permission from your legal guardian.
30.00 EUR. An exemption from the fee is possible upon request under certain conditions.

- You book an appointment for instruction in accordance with the Infection Protection Act via the online appointment management system.
- Alternatively, you can contact a trusted doctor. You can find a list of doctors in the links.
- The venue (Holi Cinema) is not wheelchair accessible. If you require a wheelchair accessible venue, please send an email to belehrungen@eimsbuettel.hamburg.de .
- If you would like to book an appointment for a group instruction, please send an email to belehrungen@eimsbuettel.hamburg.de .
- If you are under 16 years old, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or another authorized adult. This person must identify themselves with a power of attorney and personal identification before the instruction.
- If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you will need a written statement from your legal guardian.
- Please come to the appointment in person. The instruction will take place in the Holi cinema at Schlankreye 69 – 73 in 20144 Hamburg (Hoheluftbrücke subway station).
- The instruction is given by the health department.
- You will receive the certificate.
- You will receive a fee invoice.
- You pay the fee.

Individuals have the option of booking an appointment online for initial instruction in accordance with Section 43 of the Infection Protection Act (see above: "Book an appointment" button).
For group bookings, contact via email (see contact details) is required.
You also have the option of having the instruction conducted by a registered physician (no fee exemption). If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please make an appointment with the respective physician's office (see forms and downloads).

After the instruction, it must be stated in writing that no facts are known that would justify a ban on activity.
If there are indications that there are obstacles to working in the food sector, the certificate may only be issued if a medical certificate proves that the obstacle in question no longer exists.
