If you move into a new main residence, you must register in person or in writing with the registration office responsible for you at your new place of residence within two weeks of moving in. You can also register your new home online under certain conditions.

If you move into a new main residence, you must register with the registration office responsible for you at your new place of residence within two weeks of moving in.

The following applies as your main residence:

  • If you are married or in a civil partnership:
    • the home primarily used by both of you. This also applies if you are only living apart temporarily.
  • If you are married or in a civil partnership and live apart permanently:
    • Your predominantly used home.
  • If you are a minor:
    • the home mainly used by your parents or foster parents. If they live separately, the main residence is the home in which you mainly live.
  • If you cannot clearly determine the home you mainly use:
    • Your home in which you have the center of your life.
  • If you have several homes in Germany, your main home is the home you mainly use.
  • If you are under 16 years of age, your new main residence must be registered by the person whose home you are moving into.
  • If you are over 18 years of age and a carer or guardian has been appointed for you who can determine your residence, your new main residence must be registered by your carer or guardian.
  • You only have to register newborn babies born in Germany if they move to a different home to that of their parents or mother.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

  • At least one proof of identity:

    Identity card, temporary identity card, replacement identity card, recognized and valid passport, recognized and valid passport replacement document.

  • When moving into a rental property:
    • Landlord confirmation
  • When purchasing residential property:

    Self-declaration

  • For assisted persons:
    • Written power of attorney or guardian's card
  • If represented by another person:
    • Written authorization and identification documents of the person to be registered
  • When moving from abroad:
    • Last residential address in Germany (confirmation of registration, date of moving in and out)
  • For spouses, life partners and family members with the same immigration data:
    • Move-in date and previous and current apartments
  • The competent authority may request the submission of further documents to verify the information (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate).
  • In cases where a minor child moves out of the shared parental home for the first time (after separation or divorce) with only one parent:

    The consent of the other parent is required (written declaration of consent and copy of ID). This regulation also applies to the change of a child's main or secondary residence for separated parents with joint custody.

Voraussetzungen

  • You have moved into a new main residence in Bremerhaven.

  • With electronic residence registration via the online service:
  • You have moved within Bremerhaven or from another city in Germany to Bremerhaven.
  • You are of legal age.
  • You have moved alone or with your family.
  • You have a valid ID card or a valid eID card with activated online ID function and personal identification number (PIN).
  • You have an NFC-enabled smartphone or a USB card reader.
  • You have installed the ID card app on your smartphone.
  • You have a service account

Verfahrensablauf

If you have moved within Bremerhaven or have moved to Bremerhaven from another city in Germany, you can register online, in person or in writing.

If you are moving from abroad, you must register in person at a citizens' office. All persons who are to be registered must be present (including children).

Online residence registration:

You can register online alone or with your family. Exceptions are adult children, who must register themselves.

All registrations for new main or sole residences are possible. The status of existing secondary residences remains unaffected.

  • You call up the online service. You will find the link under "Forms".
  • You log in to the online service with your user account.
  • You enter all the required data online and submit the form online
  • After the registration office has checked all the details, you will receive an email after 2-3 days.
  • You confirm the move into your new main residence in the online service.
  • Your electronic registration confirmation is available in the online service and you update the address stored on your ID card. A sticker for your ID card will then be sent to you.
  • The new address sticker will arrive by post. All you have to do is stick it on your ID card. Everything is now up to date.

Personal registration of residence:

  • You appear in person at the registration office responsible for you or have someone with power of attorney represent you.
  • You present all the necessary documents.
  • You will then receive an official confirmation of registration of your main residence from the registration office.

Written registration of residence (by post or e-mail):

  • You fill out the registration form and sign it.
  • You enclose all the necessary documents.
  • Finally, you will receive an official confirmation of registration of your main residence from the registration office.
  • You can change your identity card afterwards (without an appointment) at the Citizens' Office.

The processing time is usually 12 minutes. Online: The processing time is about 5 minutes.

Hinweise

  • An adult family member can register the entire family (except if moving from abroad).
  • From the age of 16, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is not required.
  • Vehicle documents must also be changed
  • If you move across municipal borders, the place of residence must also be changed in the passport.
  • Driving licenses are not changed.
