Construction sites of a certain size must be notified (pre-announced) in writing to the competent authority at least 2 weeks before they are set up.

For any construction site where

• the expected duration of the work is more than 30 working days and on which more than 20 employees will be working at the same time, or
• the scope of the work is expected to exceed 500 person days,

an advance notice containing at least the information specified in Annex I must be sent to the competent authority at least two weeks before the construction site is set up. The advance notice must be visibly displayed at the construction site and adapted in the event of significant changes.

Mandatory information according to Annex I BaustellV:

• Location of the construction site,
• name and address of the client,
• type of construction project,
• name and address of the third party responsible in place of the client,
• name and address of the coordinator,
• expected starting date and duration of the work,
• the maximum number of persons expected to be employed on the site,
• the number of employers and contractors without employees expected to work on the site,
• indication of the employers and contractors without employees already selected.

• Address of the responsible third party also with telephone, fax and e-mail if necessary
• Indication of the coordinator separately according to planning phase and execution phase, in addition to the address also with telephone, fax and e-mail if necessary

At least two weeks before setting up a construction site where

• the anticipated duration of the work exceeds 30 working days and on which more than 20 employees will be working at the same time, or
• the scope of the work is expected to exceed 500 person-days.

Pursuant to § 4 BaustellV, the client or his appointed third party must check whether one of the conditions pursuant to § 2 para. 2 BaustellV is fulfilled. If so, the advance notice must be submitted to the competent authority in good time, visibly displayed at the construction site and adapted in the event of significant changes.

The advance notice shall be submitted to the competent authority at least 2 weeks before the construction site is set up.

Rule of thumb: Advance notice is generally required if the construction activities require the deployment of at least 4 workers over a period of more than 6 months.

Section 7 (1) No. 1 BaustellV: It is a regulatory offence to intentionally or negligently fail to provide the competent authority with advance notice, or to do so correctly, completely or in good time.

When planning the execution of work on a construction project, in particular the division of work and the calculation of execution times, the general principles according to §4 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act must be observed.

The advance notice must be displayed visibly on the construction site and adapted in the event of significant changes.
